Head coach Joanne P. McCallie's opening statement: "We had a good game rebounding, and that's good because we have been trying to improve in that area. ... Our defensive was solid in terms of shot defense holding them to 22 percent. We were all beasts on the boards, which made a difference for our team and we are going to take these positives and get ready for Monday."
Head coach Joanne P. McCallie on Liz Shimek's play: "She is amazing person and an amazing athlete, and I can see her getting better as she works hard at the game. ... She has expanded her game to include both power and finesse. ... She can dominate any game at anytime, but I think she hasn't touched the tip of the iceberg of what she can do."
Head coach Joanne P. McCallie on her team's style of play today: "I liked some of our turnovers. If it is an aggressive mistake, we will take it every day. It will lead to great things."
Head coach Joanne P. McCallie on the play of her sophomores: "They dictate and control the tempo of the game from the defensive end and the offensive end when they are on the floor. ... I thought both of them played solid. ... This opportunity doesn't come around very often."
Senior center Kelli Roehing on inside advantage and exploitation: "We know we had a height advantage. It was just a matter of us attacking all night."
Junior forward Liz Shimek on the USC game: "No, we were just focusing on Alcorn State today."
Senior guard Kristin Haynie on turnovers: "We have to set the tempo and take control of the ball and go at a slower pace than on the defense end. An area we did not do well in tonight was taking care of the ball."
Junior forward Liz Shimek on offensive rebounding: "Coming into this game we really knew we had to get to the weak-side board. There were a lot of opportunities to do that tonight ... focusing on getting the bodies and pushing them back."
Senior guard Kristin Haynie on setting the tempo: "We're a very athletic, quick team. We love to push the ball on makes and misses. We did a very good job tonight running. I think we're just getting better in that area, getting better at transitioning."
Head coach Shirley Walker's opening statement: "We played a great team today. Michigan State was everything that we expected. ... We had good senior leadership from our Lady Braves. ... Defensively, we did kind of lay down in a few minutes of play against some of their key people. ... Altogether, I am very proud of these young ladies to bring us here. They still have a tough attitude, a good attitude about the game itself. "
Head coach Shirley Walker on the stretch at the end of the first half when ASU missed some key close-range shots: "We missed some easy, easy baskets. It was very disappointing to me. I don't know why we rushed, because we were right down there in the paint. I tell them every game that it is going to be tough. It's a contact game and you can't wait for the whistle. The lay-ups that we missed, we shouldn't have done that. Nobody was on us. We needed to take our time and do what we needed to do. We've played 27-plus games and we've been down in there. It hurts. It was a weakness on our part."
Senior forward Tnonealyer Powers on playing top-seeded Michigan State: "We battled from start to finish."
Senior forward Tnonealyer Powers on the season: "It was a great experience. It gives the underclassmen something to shoot for. They know what they have to do to get back here again."
Senior guard LaToya Johnson on making it to the NCAA Tournament, and playing the final game of her career: "We set an example and gave the underclassmen something to work for. At the end of the season, we gelled together and played hard and they (the underclassmen) can use that nature to get back here. "
Senior guard Shikhia Sims on making it to the NCAA Tournament, and playing the final game of her career: "I enjoyed playing with these young ladies. I'm going to miss them."
Freshman guard Tanika Nunez on her experience: "It's a good experience, something you dream about ever since you were a young kid. I'm young and I'll try and make it back my next three years."
Freshman guard Tanika Nunez on her off-season preparation for next year: "I need to work on my ball handling and work on my shot."
Senior center Candace Roberts on her experience: "It has been a great experience to play against a No. 1 seed. I think it was very good for everyone on our team to play them, especially the younger players."
Senior center Candace Roberts on her off-season preparation for next year: "I think ballhandling and taking time with shots. The basic fundamentals will help too."
