* Michigan State won its fourth straight game to improve to 20-3 overall and 9-2 in the Big Ten (tied for second).
* Michigan State has now won 20 games in a season six times and two in a row. It is just the second time that MSU has won 20 or more games in back-to-back seasons, as the 1976-77 and 1977-78 teams also accomplished the feat.
* Michigan State improved to 11-0 at home this season. MSU's current 11-game home winning streak is the fourth longest in team history.
* MSU now leads the all-time series against Illinois, 25-24. MSU has won the last three games and and five of the last six in the series.
* MSU had a 40-34 rebounding advantage. The Spartans, who lead the Big Ten in rebound margin, have been outrebounded just twice all season.
* Liz Shimek led MSU in scoring with 21 points. It was her second straight game with 21 points, which is the third highest point total of her career. She has four games this season with 20+ points, and pushed her career total to 979 points, which ranks 18th in school history.
* Shimek also had a career-high five assists and added nine rebounds, two steals and a block. She had dished out four assists on three differenct occasions.
* Kelli Roehrig had 14 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and two assists. She moved up to sixth on MSU's career scoring list with 1,199 career points.
* Lindsay Bowen also scored 14 points for MSU, moving her into a tie for eighth on MSU's career scoring list with 1,143 points.
* Kristin Haynie had 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals for MSU. She now is just one steal and six assists away from become the fourth player in Big Ten history to reach career totals of 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 500 assists and 300 steals.
* After exploding for a season-high 29 points Thursday vs. Northwestern, MSU's bench totaled just three points Sunday, on a 3-pointer by Rene Haynes.
* MSU had had nine games that were within eight points in the final 2:55 of regulation, and in those nine games MSU has outscored its opposition 83-34. The Spartans had a 7-0 edge over Illinois today after the Illini had closed within 61-59.
* MSU went 3-for-3 at the free throw line in the final two minutes, making the Spartans 41-46 this season (89.1 percent) in the final two minutes plus overtime of close games (margin in single digits). Lindsay Bowen was 2-for-2 and Liz Shimek 1-for-1 today.
