Women's Swimming and Diving Falls To No. 15 Michigan

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's swimming and diving team fell to No. 15-ranked University of Michigan Friday evening, Oct. 28, at Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor, 158-128. Despite the loss, the Spartans saw promising performances from many of its freshmen.
The divers continued to have a strong showing against Michigan and State took the top two spots in the 3-meter diving. Sophomore Danielle Williams was the only diver to score over a 300, blowing the rest of the field away with a score of 313.85. Coming in second was teammate Katie Edwards (Jr.) at 297.30. Williams also took third in the 1-meter diving with a score of 257.55.
With second place finishes for MSU were Rachel Hagerman (Sr.) in the 50 yard freestyle (23:75) and Heather Kiluk (Fr.) in the 200 backstroke (2:07.67). Senior Telsa Hughes also earned a second place finish in the 1650 freestyle (18:04.34), while junior Katie Van Houten took third with a time of 18:33.33.
Taking third in the 100 yard breaststroke was senior Courtney Ellabarger. Junior Amber Schroeder (200 fly), freshman Julie Kahn (100 free), senior Erika Templeton (2:25.86) and Hagerman (100 back) also picked up third place finishes.
Both the women's and men's swimming and diving teams travel to West Lafayette, Ind. on Nov. 4 to face Purdue and Northwestern at 5 p.m.
