* Michigan State is now 1-0 against Eastern Illinois. It was the first ever meeting between the teams.
* Michigan State improved to 7-1 for the second straight season and third time in the last four years.
* Five MSU players scored in double figures for the first time this season. All 10 players that played scored at least two points.
* Rene Haynes had a season-high 18 points, which is one shy of her career high of 19 set during her collegiate debut vs. Davidson last season. Haynes also had a career-best eight rebounds and tied her career high with four steals.
* Victoria Lucas-Perry had career highs of 15 points and seven assists and was one shy of her career high with eight rebounds. Her previous career high for points was 13 set last season at Kent State.
* Kelli Roehrig had 14 points, and in the process became the 13th player in MSU history to reach 1,000 career points. Roehrig now has 1,002 points.
* Liz Shimek had 14 points and six rebounds and is now more than three quarters of the way to 1,000 career points with 752.
* Lindsay Bowen started at point guard in place of the injured Kristin Haynie and had a career high five steals and was one shy of her career high with six assists, while also scoring 10 points.
* Freshman Melanie Small saw the first action of her collegiate career and totaled five points and five rebounds.
* MSU had a whopping 57-25 edge in rebounds, including 27 offensive boards to just 14 defensive rebounds for Eastern Illinois. The Spartans have outrebounded all but one of their opponents this season.
* MSU also had big edges in points in the paint (44-8), points off turnovers (19-3), second chance points (25-9) and fast-break points (14-0).
* The Spartans scored a season-high 85 points, and have now scored at least 75 points in seven of their eight games this season. Last year, MSU reached the 75-point mark just four times all year.
* MSU scored a season-best 51 points in the first half. The highest point total in a half for MSU this season had been 45 points on two occasions.
* Eastern Illinois became the second team this season to be held to fewer than 50 points by MSU. The Spartans limited Central Connecticut State to 42 points in the season opener.
