EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State field hockey senior forward Veerle Goudswaard was named Division I Player of the Week by womensfieldhockey.com, the site announced on Monday, Nov. 15.
After what proved to be an incredible weekend for Spartan sports, field hockey celebrates a return trip to the NCAA Final Four, after defeating Boston College and Michigan in back-to-back first- and second-round games in Ann Arbor.
Senior forward Veerle Goudswaard largely contributed to the team's success at Michigan, scoring three goals in a 4-0 victory over Boston College on Saturday and notching the game-tying goal in a Sunday win over Michigan.
Goudswaard's goal against Michigan marked her 31st of the season, breaking the all-time single-season goals record in program history, previously held by Nance Lyons (1977).
Next, Goudswaard and the rest of the Spartans head to Winston-Salem, N.C. for MSU's second Final Four appearance in program history, under the direction of Michigan State head coach Michele Madison. MSU is slated to face Duke on Friday, Nov. 19, at 4:30 p.m.
