
Men's Tennis Completes Day Two Of ITA Regional Championship

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's tennis completed day two of action at the ITA Regional Championship on Friday, Oct. 22 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
In the first round of the doubles main draw, an 11th-seed freshman-senior Spartan duo of Nick Rinks and Andrew Formanczyk defeated Dayton's pair of seniors Rob Altenau and Jonathan Khoury, 8-6.
Spartans sophomore Michael Flowers and freshman Adam Monich teamed up to defeat Xavier's duo of senior Justin Yeager and junior Rob Simpson, 8-1.
Freshman Brian Compton and senior Cameron Marshall were defeated by Iowa's Kyle Markham-Brett Taylor pair in a tiebreaker, 9-8(2). Junior Mike Brown and senior Anthony Stefani fell to Notre Dame's Brent D'Amico and Eric Langenkamp, 8-6.
In the singles qualifier, Monich posted a solid performance, defeating two straight opponents on Friday to advance to the main draw. Monich first downed Illinois-Chicago's Ivan Kovalev on Thursday, Oct. 21, in the first day of action. On Friday, Oct. 22, Monich defeated ninth seed Vinny Gossain of Michigan, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. After that, Monich triumphed over Dayton's Altenau, 6-3, 7-6(3). Monich became one of only eight qualifiers to advance to the main draw.
Also in singles qualifying action, Compton posted a 4-6, 8-6, 7-5 win over Butler's Andy Bartish, only to retire in a match against Notre Dame's Irackli Akhvlediani.
ITA Regional Championship play continues on Saturday, Oct. 23.
