FT. WAYNE, Ind. - The Michigan State men's soccer team defeated IPFW, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon in Ft. Wayne, Ind. Spartan senior forward Thomas Trivelloni (Mt. Clemens) scored two goals to pace a MSU offensive attack that outshot the Mastodons, 28-9. With the win, MSU improves to 2-1 on the year, while IPFW drops to 2-2.
Michigan State scored its first goal in the 32nd minute. Kellen Kalso (Jr., Oxford) had his penalty kick stopped by the IPFW goalie, but Trivelloni put the rebound in the back of the net to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead. Just over seven minutes later, senior Dave Perlin (Sterling Heights) scored his first goal as a Spartan to give MSU a 2-0 advantage. Trivelloni would conclude the scoring late in the second half with an assist from Kevin Wittig (Sr., Newtown, Pa.) in the 83rd minute.
Senior goalkeeper Mike Robinson (Troy) played the first 85:42 in net for the Spartans, stopping three shots. Freshman Jason Tillman (Brighton) finished the contest in net, but was not required to make a save.
Michigan State will travel to California this weekend to play at UC Santa Barbara on Friday night and UC Irvine on Sunday afternoon.
