Men's Soccer Defeats Kentucky In Exhibition Contest

FT. WAYNE, Ind. - The Michigan State men's soccer team defeated Kentucky, 2-0, in an exhibition contest on Sunday afternoon at the 2003 IPFW Soccer Showcase in Ft. Wayne, Ind. On Friday night, MSU tied Rutgers, 1-1, in another exhibition contest.
After a scoreless first half vs. Kentucky, Michigan State struck in the 54th minute on an unassisted goal from Craig Hearn (Farmington Hills). The Spartans held a 1-0 lead for most of the second half until new transfer Udo Seidel (Prospect Heights, Ill.) scored off a pass from Dave Perlin (Sterling Heights).
Senior Mike Robinson (Troy) and freshman Jason Tillman (Brighton) split time in the Spartan goal. Robinson recorded three saves in the first half, while Tillman made two in the second half. For the game, Michigan State outshot Kentucky, 14-8, including a 10-2 edge in the second half.
The Spartans open the regular season on Sunday, Aug. 31 in the MSU/Radisson Fall Classic as they host Xavier at noon on East Lansing's Old College Field. On Monday, Sep. 1, MSU will host Loyola Marymount at noon.
