Women's Golf Signs Two To National Letters Of Intent

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's golf coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll has announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the 2004-05 season as Sara Brown (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic HS) and Jordyn Wells (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park HS) will join the Spartan program.
"Both of our new signees will add depth and excitement to our squad," said Slobodnik-Stoll. "We are losing some key players this season and both Sara Brown and Jordyn Wells are expected to step in and make an immediate contribution to our team. They are both wonderful players as well as people and we welcome them as Spartans."
Brown was a four-year letterwinner and four-year all-state and all-city first team honoree at Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson, Ariz. She was selected as the 5A Southern Arizona Player of the Year three times. In 15 total events in 2003, she finished first (or tied for first) in 13 events and took fourth twice. She finished her senior season with a 72.18 scoring average. She closed her high school career with a 73.11 scoring average and set a southern Arizona record for the most matches ever won with 36 (out of a total of 52 events).
Brown was the 2001 Arizona Junior Golf Association Player of the Year as well as the 2002 PGA Junior Series Player of the Year. She was a three-year qualifier (2001-03) for the USGA/Westfield PGA National Championship. She took medalist honors with a 71 at the USGA Women's Publinks Sectional Qualifier in Phoenix, Ariz.
Wells was a four-time captain and four-year letterwinner at Bethel Park (Pa.) High School. She was the runner-up at the 2002 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) State Championship and earned medalist honors (76) at the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL).
Wells has been active on the junior circuit as well. She was the 2003 runner-up at the AJGA Boyne Resort Junior Invitational after shooting a 76-76. She took medalist honors at the U.S. Jr. Girls Championship Qualifier with a 74 and at the Westfield PGA Jr. Championship qualifier with a 72-69. In addition, she finished fourth at the Westfield PGA Jr. Championship after shooting a 79-69-71-71.
