NEXT IN LINE: Michigan State concludes the fall tournament schedule when it returns to Ann Arbor Saturday, Nov. 15, for the 2003 Big Ten Singles Indoor Championships. The Spartans will take part in a 64-player main draw and a separate bracket for the No. 7, 8 and 9 players for each school. Consolation rounds are also scheduled for the weekend. The tournament will wrap up Monday, Nov. 17.
SPARTAN PARTICIPANTS: State's roster allows for almost every Spartan to take part in singles competition this weekend. Michael Flowers, Andrew Formanczyk, Cameron Marshall, Joseph McWilliams, Chris Mitchell, Eric Simonton and Anthony Stefani have received spots in the main draw while Mike Brown entered the 7/8/9 bracket.
LAST YEAR'S MSU RESULTS: Andrew Formanczyk advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 2002 championships after winning two matches on day one and opened the second day with a third victory. Cameron Marshall, meanwhile, reached the third round after a come-from-behind three-set win in the second round. Eric Simonton also fared well with a third-round showing in the consolation draw.
ITA REGIONAL RECAP: MSU's four main draw singles players all came out victorious in the first round of the 2003 ITA Midwest Regional Championships in East Lansing Oct. 25, and Formanczyk even secured a spot in the third round but fell to Illinois' Chris Martin. The doubles tandem of Marshall and Simonton also won their first two matches but dropped out in the round of 16.
HOT STARTS: Two student-athletes pace the Spartans in singles victories. Cameron Marshall and Joseph McWilliams lead the way with six wins while Michael Flowers and Andrew Formanczyk are close behind with five. In doubles, the duo of Marshall and Eric Simonton have posted six victories.
