Perun scored her third goal of the season in the 79th minute to close out the scoring. Perun's first goal turned out to be the game winner.
The Hawkeyes outshot the Spartans, 17-13, as Spartan goalkeeper Stacy Heller (Sr., Madison, Wis.) finished the game with five saves. Iowa's goalkeeper Britta Vogele finished with six saves.
"I am so happy for today's win for our seniors," said head coach Tom Saxton. "I am also happy for Michelle Perun, who has worked so hard in her career and scored two goals today. It was big to jump out to a 2-0 lead, but Iowa is a really good team and I was impressed with them."
"There was a lot of emotions today," said Perun. "We started the season kind of rough, but now we are getting it back. It's going to take a lot to stop us now."
"This year went by so fast and I don't want it to end," said Kenny. "It lifted our spirits to score so many goals today. This was truly a huge win for all of us, especially the seniors."
"This was a good way to go out," said Sied. "I'm sad this is our last home game, but I think this win was a turning point for us. We are back playing the way we should be playing, and I am confident that it is all uphill for us from now on."
