Michigan State Women's Golf Summer Update

It's been a busy summer for the Michigan State women's golf team. In preparation for the upcoming 2002-03 season, members of the MSU golf team have been very busy working on their skills.
Below is an update on some of the happenings from this summer:
* Junior Allison Fouch (Grand Rapids, Mich.) placed second in the ninth World University Games in Taiwan. Fouch shot a four-round total of 301 (72-76-75-78) over the four days (Aug. 11-14). In addition, she competed on the Midwest Collegiate Amateur Series where she won tournaments at the Whisper Creek Country Club, the Bedford Valley Country Club and the New Albany Country Club. She shot a 72.71 average on the Midwest Collegiate Amateur Series. She also shot a 154 at the Grand Rapids FUTURES Classic.
* Junior Sarah Martin (Grosse Ile, Mich.) advanced to the finals of the Michigan Amateur Championship, falling 1-up to Clarkston's Mary Jane Anderson Hiestand. Martin also competed on the Midwest Collegiate Amateur Series and qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship.
* Senior Jessica Till (Fort Wayne, Ind.) won the Fort Wayne City Tournament.
* Redshirt freshman Lauren Gant (Fort Wayne, Ind.) took medallist honors at the Pine Valley Country Club with on the Midwest Collegiate Amateur Series. Gant placed second at the Tour Championship at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.
* Junior Ann Marie Kersten (Oak Harbor, Ohio) competed on the Midwest Collegiate Amateur Series and picked up medallist honors at the tour championship with a 151 (75-76) at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.
* Redshirt freshman Jennifer Johnson (Okemos, Mich.) qualified for the U.S. Public Links Tournament in Sunriver, Ore., and advanced to match play.
* Even head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll had a busy summer. Slobodnik-Stoll served as the head coach for the USA-Japan matches at the Glen Club in Glenville, Ill., from July 15-17.
* Former Spartan golfers Emily Bastel and Stacy Snider also had busy summers. Both players qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championships as Bastel advanced to match play.
* Bastel was a member of the 2002 U.S. Curtis Cup Team. The U.S. squad defeated Great Britain and Ireland 11&7. In addition, Bastel played at the 2002 U.S. Women's Open Championship in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Michigan State will kick off the 2002-03 at the NCAA Fall Preview in West Lafayette, Ind., Sept. 15-17.
