Men's Soccer Falters At Oakland, 3-1

Rochester, Mich. - After taking an early 1-0 lead, the Michigan State men's soccer team surrendered three unanswered goals and fell 3-1 to Oakland University, Wednesday (Oct. 9) afternoon in Rochester. The Spartans are now 7-4, while Oakland improves to 5-3-2.
Michigan State freshman Steve Doster (Frankfort, Ill.) scored his first-career goal just over 11 minutes into the game, heading the ball in to the net off a free kick. Brett Konley (Sr., Plymouth) picked up the assist on the goal. Oakland answered when Chris Edwards scored his first goal of the day in the 27th minute, as the teams entered halftime tied at one.
The Grizzlies took the lead for good at the 52:00 mark and Edwards provided insurance, scoring his second goal of the day, just over ten minutes later.
Oakland outshot the Spartans by a count of 23-12, including a 17-5 advantage in the first half. Spartan goalkeeper Tyler Robinson (Sr., Lansing) made 13 stops.
After two consecutive losses, the Spartans will look to get back on the winning track, Sunday (Oct. 13), when they travel to Ann Arbor to take on rival Michigan at 2:00 p.m.
