EAST LANSING, Mich. - After last weekend's promising tournament at Ball State, the Michigan State men's tennis team looks to improve in their second weekend of competition. The Spartans will travel to Notre Dame for the Eighth Annual Tom Fallon Invitational Friday through Sunday.
With ten teams participating (four from the Big Ten), the tournament will be a "hidden dual" match format with no team scoring or champions announced. This will be the second year for this format as it helps teams and coaches prepare for dual matches during the season. There will be six singles and three doubles flights per team.
Friday's schedule of play includes a 9 a.m. match (singles only) against Indiana State. They are led by 68th-ranked singles player Stefan Hirn. The Spartans second match, also only singles, will be against William & Mary and at 5 p.m. the doubles will take the courts against Indiana State.
Last weekend the Spartans won two consolation rounds at the Ball State Invitational. Freshman Cameron Marshall (Prospect, Ky.) and the doubles team of junior Adam Hourani (Lansing, Mich.) and sophomore Mike Hodge (Grand Rapids, Mich.) came away with 4-1 and 3-1 records respectively. Marshall combined with freshman Anthony Stefani (Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich.) to finish second in the main draw of the doubles C division.
