JACKSONVILLE, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team was defeated by Jacksonville University (5-2) on Tues., March 6 at the Alexander Brest Tennis Complex in Jacksonville, Fla.
Freshman Eric Simonton (Annandale, N.J.) defeated Addams England of JU, 6-3, 6-4, at the No. 2 singles spot. Freshman Mike Hodge (Grand Rapids, Mich.) defeated Jeff Lewis at the No. 5 singles position, 6-1, 6-2. Paired together these two freshmen defeated Jeff Lewis and Rich Davoli, 8-2, at the No. 3 doubles spot. The two singles wins were the only points scored by the Spartans.
Sophomore Adam Hourani (Lansing, Mich.) took Tom Freiburger to three sets before dropping the match 6-1, 6-7(5), 6-1, at the No. 4 singles slot. Freshman Josh Efros (West Bloomfield, Mich.) took the first set of his match, but then dropped the next two to Kamal El Bouzkouri to lose the No. 6 singles point 1-6, 6-3, 7-6(5).
The Spartans (6-6, 0-2 Big Ten) will face South Florida on Wed., March 7.
