EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Maren Walseth scored 19 of her 26 points in the second half and No. 16 Penn State withstood a late Michigan State surge to beat the Spartans 64-58 on Thursday night.
Kelly Mazzante added 15 points, all but two in the first half, and Rashana Barnes scored 10 for the Lady Lions (17-6, 9-3 Big Ten).
With memories of January's 48-point blowout by the Lions still fresh, Michigan State promised to keep Thursday's rematch close. The Spartans (8-14, 2-9) made good on their pledge, tying the game at 52 on a 3-pointer from Vnemina Reese with 4:15 left.
But Penn State got two driving layups from Walseth and two free throws each from Mazzante and Ashley Luke to seal the win.
Becky Cummings scored 12 and Abby Salscheider added 11 for the Spartans.
