EAST LANSING, Mich. - For a second straight game, the Michigan State women's basketball team almost pulled off an upset. However, a last second shot by Indiana's Erin McGinnis gave the Hoosiers a 52-50 victory over Michigan State on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 11) at the Breslin Center.
The Spartans bounced back from a 10-point deficit (49-39) with 5:05 remaining in the second half. MSU outscored Indiana 11-1, tying the game at 50 on a Christie Pung driving layup with 18.3 seconds left. Pung, who was fouled on the layup, missed the free throw and Indiana grabbed the rebound. The first half was an entirely different story, as there were five lead changes and three ties. After a pair of Jennifer Callier free throws knotted the game at 12, Indiana went on a 12-3 run to claim a 22-15 advantage with 4:36 remaining. The Spartans closed the first half on an 8-0 run, thanks in part to six points by Julie Pagel, to take a 23-22 lead into the locker room at the half.
