Coaches Quotes
Michigan State Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie:
On the game: "My hat goes off to Iowa, they did a great job. We had our moments but Iowa got to more loose balls and hit some nice shots. We do not need to fade like we did at the end of this game."
About Julie Pagel: "Julie is a fighter and has a lot of heart. She still needs to work on her turnovers and taking shots to quickly but she has heart and aggressiveness. It is strange to have one person on a team with that much heart and it does not spread to the rest of the players. We need to get that kind of aggressiveness out of every player for all forty minutes. I would much rather see my players make aggressive mistakes than passive mistakes, which is what I see."
On the continuous fading: "It is frustrating that the team is not growing and finding a new level. I want to see my players grow and learn -- it is very frustrating not to see that."
Iowa Head Coach Lisa Bluder: On the game: "I am extremely pleased to finally win against Michigan State. We have lost the last five and I do not think my players remember the last time they won against MSU. It is nice to win on the road because we have been criticized about our play on the road. We really had to raise the bar to defeat MSU on the road."
On Iowa Players: "Randi Peterson is a warrior and it was great to see. It was nice having Peterson back in the second half. Beatrice Bullock also played much better defense in the second half."
On MSU Players: "Julie Pagel did an outstanding job. We did a good job not letting her get to the boards but we let her get established on the inside. Christie Pung was amazing in the first half and I think we did a much better job defending her in the second half."
On Iowa's Second Half: "We come into the second half with a renewed energy, which is what propelled our intensity and pressure on defense."
