EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's basketball team will have its final tune up before the regular-season opener at the Breslin Center this Sunday (Nov. 11), at 2 p.m., when the Spartans face RTU Klondaika. RTU Klondaika is from Latvia and is under the direction of Aivars Vinbergs.
The RTU Klondaika roster features 14 players, ranging in age from 16 years to 30 years. They are in the middle of a 10-game Midwest tour. RTU Klondaika has already faced Purdue, DePaul and Marquette.
"RTU Klondaika is an excellent opponent for us," said MSU head coach Joanne P. McCallie. "This will be a good test for a defense. In our first exhibition game, the Premier All-Stars were able to expose some weaknesses in our defense and rebounding. This second exhibition game will give us an opportunity to fine tune and make corrections before the season opener next Friday."
MSU won its first exhibition game, a 93-74 victory over the Premier All-Stars last Sunday (Nov. 4) at the Breslin Center. Six players scored in double figures in the win, led by junior college transfer Syreeta Bromfield with 19 points. Junior guard Vnemina Reese added 14 points, while freshman center Kelli Roehrig and freshman guard Kristin Haynie each pumped in 12 points.
The Spartans begin the regular season hosting the Spartan Chevrolet Classic Nov. 16-17 at the Breslin Center. On Nov. 16, Liberty and ULCA will square off in the first game at 6 p.m., while MSU will face Mid-American Conference opponent Buffalo at 8 p.m. Game times for Saturday (Nov. 17) are 6 and 8 p.m. with Michigan State playing in the 8 p.m. game.
