EAST LANSING, MICH - Goran Topalo after his first round victory over Vitek Wild: "Winning two straight matches at the Notre Dame Invitational, my confidence really increased. But in my match against Vitek Wild, I was nervous because we've been playing against each other since we were kids. It was a really different feeling playing against him."
Chris Mitchell on his two-set victory in the first round: "It was a tough mental battle in the second set. I was fighting myself and beating myself more than my opponent was beating me. But I raised my game and started playing better in the tie-breaker."
Assistant Coach Brian Etzkin on the performance of freshman Andrew Formanczyk: "Today is the best we've seen him play. Due to an early injury, it was the first chance he could go all out on his first serve, which is his major weapon. Being a freshman, he showed no signs of nervousness and fit in with the top players of our region."
Coach Gene Orlando on Chris Mitchell's second round match: "Having it be Chris's second match of the day and his opponent's first, he wasn't as sharp in the end. I give him a lot of credit for playing that well in a three hour match."
Coach Gene Orlando on the 2001 Omni Hotels Region IV Championships: "On the first day we always want more, but I'm happy we are farther than we were a year ago. Having a freshman in the singles round of 32 and two juniors in the doubles round of 32 is special for us. I don't feel we were outclassed today by anybody. This region has a lot more depth than expected."
