Coaches Quotes
Michigan State Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie:
On the game: "I want to credit Wisconsin on their great team effort and give them credit for their win."
On Aggressiveness and Effort: "In the first half we played good basketball and the second half was very disappointing. I was disappointed in our overall aggressiveness. We showed some aggressiveness in the last five minutes of the first half but we need to do that for forty minutes to be competitive. We need to be more aggressive in taking the ball to the basket than we were tonight. We need to get to a point where we compete every minute."
Attendance: "We'd love to get thousands of people in the stands but we know that we have to earn that. The way we need to do that is give a consistent hard effort and fight for the win. We know we can not just show up and put on the uniform, we need to earn the community's attendance."
On MSU's Next Opponent Illinois: "Illinois is a very strong team that is well coached. I know that after a loss like this that I would be very motivated to play again and I hope my players are as well. I am just looking for a blue-collar hard-nose work ethic for a full forty minutes."
Wisconsin Head Coach Jane Albright:
On The Player of UW's Post Players: "Our post defense was exceptional. We knew we had to come out with good post defense in order to win this game. Pagel and Cummings are exceptional players who are hard to defend. Cummings did a great job on taking advantage of us having a freshman guard her. We tried to recruit Pagel so we knew she was a tough player that would be very competitive."
Our Offense: "Our guards did a great job hitting three's but we need to get our offense mixed up more. Our post players can shoot 60% and our guards shoot well but they do not shoot 60%. We need to get our post players more involved in the game."
On the Road: "It's great to be winning on the road but we need to start winning at home where most people love to be. We are 0-3 at home and we need to improve on that record. We are very focused on the road and we need to take that focus home with us."
Michigan State University Post Player Becky Cummings:
"We needed to come out stronger in the second half. We should not start with six turnovers and that is what killed us. Give credit to Wisconsin. They played a good game and it was our mistakes. We need to start boxing out more and should not let them get second chance points."
"Tomorrow we will begin to learn Illinois inside and out. We will watch lots of film and get prepared to play them on Sunday."
