Men's Tennis Victorious Over Purdue

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team earned its first win of the Big Ten season with a 4-3 victory over Purdue on Saturday, April 8. The win ended an eleven match losing streak overall and five match conference losing streak for the Spartans. Michigan State raised its record to 6-15/1-4, while Purdue fell to 8-8/4-2.
Pudue claimed a 1-0 advantage by winning all three doubles contests to start the match. Michigan State battled back to earn victories in four of the six singles matches to claim the win. Robert Topalo (Prague, Czech Rep.) defeated Derek Miller in straight sets along with Jimmy McGuire (Columbus, Ohio) who defeated Laith Al-Agba. Seniors Ivica Primorac (Mosthar, Bosnia) and Francisco Trinidad (Mexico City, Mexico) needed three sets to down their opponents.
The contest between the Spartans and the Boilermakers came down to the final match, where Primorac came back, with the help of the home town crowd, after losing the first set.
Michigan State continues its home action tomorrow, April 9, as the Spartans play host to Indiana. The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. and will be played at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility, located on Mt. Hope Road.
