No. 20 Virginia Drops MSU Men's Tennis

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The No. 20 Virginia men's tennis team swept the doubles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over Michigan State on Sunday evening. The Cavaliers improved to 4-0 overall, while the Spartans fell to 5-6.
Senior Robert Topalo (Prague, Czech Rep.) was the only victorious Spartan, winning against John Winter, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3 singles. Goran Topalo (Prague, Czech Rep), Jimmy McGuire (Columbus, Ohio), and Todd Townsend (East Lansing, Mich.) all took their opponents into the third set.
In doubles play, Virginia won all three matches to take the opening point of the night. The No. 2 doubles team of McGuire and Ivica Primorac (Mostar, Bosnia) took their first defeat of the season, losing 8-3.
Michigan State's next competition will take place at the H.E.B. Collegiate Team Championships, March 3-5, in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Spartans open up against TCU on Friday. Following the tournament, MSU continues its seven match road trip by traveling to compete against Southern Methodist on March 8 at 2:00 p.m.
