Men's Tennis Competes at Indiana State Invitational

East Lansing, MI - Michigan State men's tennis completed day one at the Indiana State Invitational men's tennis tournament on Friday, Oct. 6. The event runs through Sunday, Oct. 8. Quarterfinal and Semifinal rounds will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7 in both singles and doubles.
Michigan State sophomore Goran Topalo defeated Middle Tennessee's (MTSU) Robert Gustafsson by a score of 3-6, 7-6, 7-6. In another match he was defeated by University of South Florida's (USF) Paco Antelo, 6-1, 1-6, 4-6. Topalo paired with sophomore Rodrigo Abucham defeated USF's duo of Paco Antelo and Nadim Naser (8-3).
Michigan State freshman Eric Simonton began his college career with a two singles wins and a doubles loss. He defeated Eric Gildhorn of USF 6-3, 6-2 and Sean Bowen of MTSU 0-6, 0-6. He and sophomore Adam Hourani were defeated by Max Dockhorn and Abhijit Shah (USF) in doubles action by a score of 8-0.
Other winners on the day were sophomore's Jimmy McGuire, Todd Townsend, and freshman Mike Hodge in singles action. While the duo of freshman Chris Mitchell and sophomore Todd Townsend also won in doubles action.
The men's tennis team will compete again on Saturday, Oct. 7, in the Quarterfinal and Semifinal matches in both singles and doubles and in the Finals on Sunday, Oct. 8.
