East Lansing, Mich. - The Michigan State men's soccer team won it's fifth-straight game Sunday, beating Wisconsin, 2-0 to close out it's Big Ten and home regular season. The Spartans now improve to 10-5-1(4-1-1 in the Big Ten) on the season and are 5-0-1 in their last six games. It is MSU's longest winning streak since 1998, when they also put together five-straight victories. Wisconsin falls to 9-7-1 on the season.
Prior to the game, the six seniors-T.J. Lieckfelt (Sterling Heights), John Benoist (St. Louis, Mo.), Mike Trivelloni (Mt. Clemens), Steve Williford (Livonia), Pat Mahoney (Shelby Twp.) and Rick Smith (Tecumseh)-were recognized for their accomplishments.
The two teams battled hard in the first half but had nothing to show for their efforts. In the second half however, Michigan State's Craig Hearn (Fr., Farmington Hills) scored at 52:05 what would ultimately be the game-winning goal to make the score 1-0. In the 75th minute, Thomas Trivelloni (Fr., Mt. Clemens) added an insurance goal to close out the scoring.
The Spartans will play their final regular season game of the year this Tuesday, Oct. 31 at Bowling Green.
