Ohio got the only goal of the second half, sending the match to overtime on Jen Watt?s goal with 16:24 remaining in regulation.
The teams played a scoreless first overtime, with Ohio Stopping an MSU penalty corner with no time left. The Spartans got the game-winner 1:10 into the second overtime as freshman Cynthia Martin (Vancouver, British Columbia) tipped home a crossing pass from junior Adrienne Miroslaw (Dallas, Pa.)
?We wanted to believe in ourselves today,? said Michigan State head coach Michele Madison. ?This was a test of our belief in the team. We knew we had to get more shots on deflections and tips and we were able to do that. Cynthia Martin came out well in overtime, making some great runs with the ball and getting that goal. Our players got the job done against a quality opponent in Ohio.?
