EAST LANSING, MICH. - The Michigan State men?s soccer team lost to Northwestern, 1-0, Thursday afternoon in Evanston, Ill. The Spartans fall to 9-7-1, 1-4 in the Big Ten, while the Wildcats improve to 5-13, 2-3 in the Big Ten.
Wildcat Frank Lawson scored the lone goal of the game in the second half at the 62:46 mark on assists from Jun Kim and Trevor Nelson.
The Spartans outshot Northwestern on the day, 13-8, but Wildcat goalkeeper Matt Keeler held MSU scoreless with five saves. Spartan goalkeeper Tim Lieckfelt (Sterling Heights, Mich.) had three stops in the game.
With the loss, Michigan State will now be seeded sixth in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament in East Lansing, Mich. on Nov. 12-14. Northwestern improves to the fourth seed with the victory.
Michigan State returns to action Saturday, Nov. 6 at the University of Cincinnati for its last regular season game of the year. The game begins at 7:00 p.m.
