EAST LANSING, MICH. - The Michigan State men?s soccer team (9-8-1, 1-4 Big Ten) lost to the University of Cincinnati (10-7-1), 5-2, Saturday night in Cincinnati.
Cincinnati scored the first five goals of the game. Bearcat Ryan Schreck had two goals, scoring during the 13th and 73rd minutes. Myron Vaughn, Greg Ruebusch and Marcus Malm rounded out the scoring for Cincinnati.
Junior John Benoist (St. Louis) scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season at the 73:35 mark on a penalty kick. The second goal for MSU came during the 81st minute as junior Pat Mahoney (Shelby Twp., Mich.) blasted a kick from the left side of the net to earn his first goal of the season.
Michigan State returns to action Friday, Nov. 12 at the Big Ten Tournament. The Spartans, seeded sixth, will face the third-seeded Penn State Nittany Lions at 12:00 p.m. Penn State defeated MSU earlier in the season, 1-0, in overtime. All tournament games will be played at Old College Field on the MSU campus.
