EAST LANSING, MICH. - The Michigan State men?s soccer team (9-6-1, 1-3 Big Ten) lost to the Wisconsin Badgers (6-11-1, 2-3), 2-1, Sunday afternoon in Madison, Wis.
Valentine Anozie scored the game-winning goal for the Badgers on a kick from about 10 yards out with less than four minutes to play in regulation. Narciso Fernandez assisted on the game-winning score for Wisconsin.
Junior Rick Smith (Tecumseh, Mich.) tied the game at one for the Spartans at the 54:49 mark in the second half. Junior Steve Williford (Livonia, Mich.) assisted on Smith?s second goal of the season.
Junior goalkeeper Tim Lieckfelt (Sterling Heights, Mich.) recorded three saves for MSU, while Badger goalie Moriba Atiba-Baker did not make any stops on the afternoon.
Michigan State returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 4 to finish its Big Ten regular season. The Spartans travel to Evanston, Ill., to face the Northwestern Wildcats at 1:00 p.m. CST.
