Oliver Wolcott on Embree: 'Genuine love for the game and positive attitude is infectious... has improved considerably as a hitter over the past year and a half.'
Scouting Embree: Is able to put pressure on the defense with his ability to bunt and hit-and-run... an above average runner and an excellent defensive center fielder... will be a top defensive replacement and compete for time in center field.
2005: Appeared in 30 games, starting in 10, posting a .295 batting average... smacked a double in his only at bat against Brown (3/6)... hit his first home run as a Spartan in only at bat vs. Saginaw Valley State (4/5)... was a perfect 2-for-2 with a home run while scoring two runs and tallying five RBI at Indiana (5/8).
Pre-MSU: Transferred from the University of Detroit where he lettered two seasons... batted .280 as a sophomore with 23 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 46 starts in the outfield for the Titans... tallied a .286 batting average with six RBI and a .486 slugging percentage for UDM in 2003.
High School: A three-year letterwinner at Notre Dame High School in Harper Woods, Mich.... batted .305 as a senior with 27 runs scored and 23 RBI... two-time all-district honoree... helped lead team to a Catholic Central Division title and a district championship in 2000... team captain as a senior... also lettered in cross country and basketball... secretary of the National Honor Society... recipient of the Catholic League Ralph Owen Award... Detroit Free Press Scholar-Athlete Award winner.
Personal: Born May 30, 1984, to Dave and Therese Embree... a finance major... father was drafted in the third round by the Cincinnati Reds in the 1972 MLB Draft and competed in the Reds organization... lists father as his biggest baseball influence... favorite team is the Boston Red Sox and favorite player is Johnny Damon.
