MOREHEAD, Ky. - Michigan State volleyball finished action at the Morehead State Invitational with a 3-0 win (25-22, 25-22, 25-19) over Morehead State Saturday afternoon inside Johnson Arena.

MSU moves to 8-0 (0-0 B1G) with the win, while Morehead State drops to 4-4 (0-0 OVC). The Spartans extended their set winning streak to 23-consecutive sets, tying the second-most in program history from the 2018 season.

The Spartans are 8-0 to start the season in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1975-76.

MSU hit .352 and held Morehead State to .164 hitting while leading in kills (49-37), service aces (3-2), total blocks (8-3.5) and digs (49-39).

Junior middle blocker Carmen Waye posted a team-high and season-high-tying 11 kills on an impressive .733 clip without an error while also recording a team and career-high six total blocks. Senior outside hitter Alanna Bankston also added 11 kills, her fifth-straight match with double-digit kills, and posted eight digs and three total blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Bianca Mumcular and freshman outside hitter Madi Andrews each put down seven kills.

Redshirt sophomore setter Malayah Long led MSU in assists with 31 and posted one service ace, while junior opposite Hayley Ogden posted a team-best two service aces and four total blocks. Senior libero Lia Schneider recorded a team-best and season-high-tying 14 digs.

After the Eagles took a one-point, 6-5 lead to start the match, the Spartans used a 4-0 run with two Ogden service aces, a Mumcular kill and pair of Morehead State attack errors to make it 10-6. The Eagles then responded with a 5-1 run to tie the set at 11-11 and force an MSU timeout. MSU then used kills from Waye and Bankston and two Morehead State errors to take the lead back at 15-12 before the media timeout. Morehead State got within at 20-19 and again at 21-20, but kills from Bankston and Waye extended the MSU lead back to three to force an Eagle timeout at 23-20. Morehead State stopped MSU's first set point at 24-21 after an Ogden kill before a block from Ogden and Hardison ended the first set, 25-22.

Back-to-back Waye kills helped MSU take a two-point advantage at 4-2 after a 2-2 start in the second set. The Eagles took a 10-9 lead with a 3-0 run before a Bankston kill and Morehead State attack error helped the Spartans back to a one-point lead at 11-10. A Madi Andrews kill and pair of Eagle attack errors then gave MSU a 14-11, three-point lead. The Eagles responded with a kill, but a second kill from Andrews sent the teams to the media timeout with a 15-12 Spartan lead. A 7-4 run from Morehead State helped the Eagles tie the set at 19-19 before back-to-back Spartan points with a kill from Ogden and Ogden and Waye block forced a Morehead State timeout at 21-19. MSU extended its lead out of the timeout with a kill from Andrews and got to set point with a dump from Long at 24-21. The Eagles stopped the first set point but followed with a service error to seal the second set for the Spartans, 25-22.

MSU opened an 8-2 lead in the third set before the Eagles used four-straight points to cut the lead to two at 8-6. The Spartans responded to take a five-point, 15-10 lead at the media timeout with Waye's 11th kill of the match and extended their lead out of the break to seven with a kill from Bankston and ace from Long to force a Morehead State timeout at 17-10. The Eagles took another timeout after MSU took a nine-point, 20-11 lead with a 3-1 run out of the timeout with back-to-back Ogden kills and a block from Ogden and Waye. The Spartans took a timeout of their own following a four-point unanswered Eagle run got Morehead State within five at 23-18 before a Mumcular kill got MSU to match point at 24-18. The Eagles stopped the first match point, but a Taylah Holdem kill ended the set and match, 25-19.
