MSU Women’s Tennis Begins Four-Match Road Trip

The Spartans begin their first of two weekends on the road with matches atWisconsin and Minnesota.
No. 75 Michigan State women's tennis ventures to Madison, Wisconsin and Minneapolis, Minnesota this weekend to face No. 28 Wisconsin on Friday, March 27 at 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT and Minnesota on Sunday, March 29 at 1 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. CT.
The pair of matches on the road follows a four-match homestand, where the Spartans went 1-3 in Big Ten Conference play, falling to No. 48 Nebraska, No. 8 USC and No. 10 UCLA.
Overall, the Spartans have earned a 8-8 record, with a 1-5 conference mark.
ITA ranked the duo of sophomore Ellie Blackford and senior Matilde Morais at No. 57 in national collegiate doubles rankings.
MSU looks to secure some on-the-road wins to strengthen their conference record.
Scouting Wisconsin
No. 28 Wisconsin has had a strong start to their season, most notably upsetting No. 6-ranked UCLA in a 4-3 at-home victory.
Although the Badgers have had their share of upsets, in their most recent pair of matches, they were upset themselves by No. 47 Maryland, who came back to win four-straight singles matches to secure the match in their favor.
Overall, the Badgers have posted a 11-4 overall record and a 4-2 Big Ten Conference record.
One Wisconsin doubles tandem has earned themselves a ranking, with Maria Sholokhova/Lucie Urbanova coming in at No. 13.
Two Badgers earned themselves ITA singles rankings, with Sholokhova coming in at No. 14 and Ekaterina Ivanova earning at No. 47-ranking.
Series History vs Wisconsin
MSU has struggled against Wisconsin, posting a 8-14 record since the 2000 season.
The Green & White has not beat the Badgers since the 2021 spring season, where the Spartans traveled to Madison, Wisc. and dominated in a 4-1 success.
Since the Spartans beat the Badgers at home during the 2020-21 season, they have not put up another victory against the Big Ten foe.
The two teams have not faced each other since the 2024 spring season, when MSU was blanked 4-0 in the Badgers' home territory.
Scouting Minnesota
Minnesota has had a difficult dual match season, slating a 10-10 overall record and a 0-5 Big Ten Conference Record.
While the team is unranked, they were able to secure a top-50 ranked upset over No. 49 Denver, 5-2.
Before welcoming MSU, the Golden Gophers will face Michigan on Friday, March 27, at home.
This will be the second time the Spartans and Golden Gophers meet, with the two facing off during the Spartan Invite that MSU hosted back in October and November of 2025.
