This Week In Spartan Athletics – March 24
Here's a look at the week ahead (March 24-30) for Michigan State Athletics:
Men's Basketball
No. 3-seed Michigan State is making its 17th trip to NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 under head coach Tom Izzo. The Spartans will play No. 2 UConn Friday night at 9:45 p.m. (CBS) in Washington, D.C. The winner will move on to the Elite Eight to face either No. 1 Duke or No. 5 St. John's.
Hockey
Michigan State earned the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans open as the No. 1 seed in the Worcester Regional and will face UConn on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. (ESPN2). The winner will move on to face either Dartmouth or Wisconsin for a trip to the Frozen Four.
Baseball
Michigan State opens the week with a Tuesday road trip up to Central Michigan for a 3 p.m. contest. The Spartans are then at home for the second straight weekend, hosting Purdue in a three-game Big Ten series Friday-Sunday. First pitch on Friday and Saturday is at 3:32, with a 1:02 start time on Sunday.
Men's Golf
Michigan State wraps up play at The Duck Invitational on Tuesday. MSU sits in third place among 15 teams after the first two rounds. The Invitational is being played at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon.
Softball
Michigan State hosts Toledo Tuesday at 5 p.m. to open the week. The Spartans then travel to Columbus for a three-game Big Ten series at Ohio State Friday-Sunday. Sunday's contest will air on Big Ten Network.
Men's Tennis
No. 28 Michigan State looks to continue its strong play in conference as it hosts No. 24 USC and No. 20 UCLA this weekend. The Spartans will face the Trojans Friday at 5 p.m., followed by a Sunday noon contest with the Bruins.
Women's Golf
No. 43 Michigan State competes in the Clemson Invitational Friday through Sunday. The Invitational will be played at The Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, South Carolina. The last time out, the Spartans finished third in the 15-team Briars Creek Invitational.
Rowing
Michigan State will compete for the first time this season, rowing in the Sarasota 2K Friday and Saturday in Sarasota, Florida. The Spartans were ranked No. 20 in the CRCA Preseason Coaches Poll.
Track & Field
Michigan State track & field travels to North Carolina for the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State. The three-day event runs Thursday through Saturday.
Women's Tennis
No. 75 Michigan State heads out on the road for a pair of matches this weekend. Friday, the Spartans are at No. 28 Wisconsin. Sunday, MSU wraps up the road trip at Minnesota.
Women's Soccer
Michigan State's spring exhibition season continues with a Saturday contest at Eastern Michigan (1 p.m.).
Men's Soccer
Michigan State will host Dayton in a spring exhibition on Sunday at 4 p.m. at DeMartin Soccer Complex.
