This Week In Spartan Athletics – February 4
Here's a look at the week ahead (February 4-9) for Michigan State Athletics:
Hockey
The eyes of the college hockey world will be on the weekend series between No. 2 Michigan State and No. 1 Michigan. Friday, the two teams face off in Ann Arbor (7 p.m., FS1). Saturday night, the action moves to Detroit's Little Caesars Arena for a 6:30 puck drop on BTN. When the two teams met in early December, each team won on the opponent's home ice.
Men's Basketball
No. 10 Michigan State travels to Minnesota for a Wednesday night contest at Williams Arena (7 p.m., BTN). Saturday night, the Spartans are back at home to host No. 5 Illinois (8 p.m., FOX). Sophomore point guard Jeremy Fears Jr., has earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks.
Women's Basketball
No. 12 Michigan State hosts No. 22 Maryland Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. on National Girls & Women In Sports Day. Saturday, MSU travels to Penn State to play the Nittany Lions.
Gymnastics
No. 11 Michigan State travels to No. 14 Penn State for a Sunday meet. Last weekend, the Spartans notched their fourth straight win over Michigan, scoring a season-high 197.525.
Women's Tennis
Michigan State continues its homestand with three home matches over the weekend. Friday, MSU hosts Xavier at 4 p.m. Sunday, the Spartans open against Gonzaga at 10 a.m., and face Ball State at 2 p.m.
Softball
Michigan State opens the 2026 season at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Florida, with five games over three days. Friday, MSU plays BYU at 5 p.m. followed by an 8 p.m. contest against Auburn. Saturday, MSU faces Longwood at noon and Pitt at 3 p.m. The weekend concludes with a 10 a.m. Sunday contest against Clemson.
Men's Tennis
Michigan State opens its home season with a Friday match against Tennessee. The action starts at 6:30 p.m. at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center.
Track & Field
Members of the Michigan State track & field teams will compete at two different events this weekend. Friday, the Spartans are in action at the Jud Logan Light Giver Open in Ashland, Ohio. Saturday's competition is at the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor.
Wrestling
Sunday afternoon, Michigan State hosts No. 8 Iowa at Jenison Field House at 1 p.m. The Spartans are coming off a home dual victory over Northwestern.
