EAST LANSING, Mich. - For the first time since 2018, Michigan State volleyball earned a spot in the American Volleyball Coaches (AVCA) Top 25 Coaches Poll, coming in at No. 22 in the Week 6 poll released Monday.Â
Monday's ranking marks MSU's first time in the national poll in eight seasons, where the Spartans earned the No. 22 spot in the preseason poll released on Aug. 8, 2018. Prior to its 2018 preseason ranking, MSU's last regular-season top-25 ranking came on Nov. 27, 2017, at No. 12. The Spartans advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight that season and finished the year ranked No. 8 nationally. The 2017 season was also MSU's last NCAA Tournament appearance.Â
The Spartans are 13-1 overall and 3-1 in the Big Ten after road wins at UCLA and USC last week. MSU knocked off No. 14 Penn State at home on Sept. 27 after suffering its first loss of the season against now-No. 20 Washington in its B1G opener on Sept. 25. MSU's 13-1 overall record is its best start since going 17-1 in 2013 to start the season, while the Spartans' 3-1 B1G mark is their best start through the first two weeks of conference play since the 2023 season. The Spartans are one of 10 Big Ten teams ranked in this week's poll.Â
MSU also came in at No. 22 in the NCAA's first release of the RPI on Monday.Â
The Spartans return to the Breslin Center this weekend to host No. 13 Oregon on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. before hosting Iowa on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. Both matches will stream on B1G+. Fans can purchase volleyball single-match tickets HERE.Â
