Here's a look at the week ahead (September 30-October 6) for Michigan State Athletics:
Football
After a bye week, Spartan football is back in action, traveling to Nebraska for a Saturday afternoon contest in Lincoln. The game will kick at 4 p.m. and be televised on FS1. MSU has won four of the last six games against the Huskers. The two teams have not met in Lincoln since 2018.
Men's and Women's Basketball
Michigan State men's and women's basketball will tip off the 2025-26 season with Michigan State Madness on Friday at the Breslin Center. Doors will open at 8 p.m. and admission is free. Team autographs and photos with the head coaches will be available on the Breslin concourse when the doors open. The formal program begins at 9 p.m.
Women's Soccer
The Spartans are off to a strong start in Big Ten play, remaining unbeaten (3-0-2) through five games. In this week's lone contest, Michigan State hosts Ohio State Sunday at 2 p.m. at DeMartin Soccer Stadium. The game will be televised on Big Ten Network. It will be the second-straight ranked opponent for the Spartans, who defeated No. 20 Wisconsin, 6-0, on Sunday.
Men's Soccer
Coming off a week of back-to-back Top 5 victories for the first time ever in program history, Michigan State hosts Penn State Friday at 5 p.m. Last week, MSU defeated No. 3 Indiana at home on Tuesday, marking the highest-ranked win since 2014. Three nights later, MSU retained the Big Bear Trophy with a 2-1 win at No. 5 Michigan.
Hockey
No. 3 Michigan State will play an exhibition game Friday night vs. Windsor, marking the first action of the 2025-26 season. The Spartans are the two-time defending Big Ten regular season and conference tournament champions, and have been selected as this year's preseason favorite. Returning first team All-Big Ten selections Trey Augustine (Jr., GK) and Matt Basgall (Sr., D) were named to the Preseason All-Big Ten First Team.
Volleyball
The Spartans take to the road for a pair of matches this weekend. Friday, MSU is at Northwestern, followed by a Sunday contest at Illinois. Last Saturday, Michigan State swept Michigan to give first-year head coach Kristen Kelsay her first Big Ten victory.
Field Hockey
Michigan State is back at home for the first time in nearly a month, hosting a pair of conference games this weekend. Friday, MSU will host Rutgers at 3 p.m. at Ralph Young Field. Sunday, the Spartans host Maryland at noon.
Women's Golf
Tuesday, Michigan State wraps up play in the Windy City Classic at Glen View Golf Club in Golf, Illinois.
Men's Golf
The Spartans wrap up action at the Windon Memorial at Knollwood Club in Lake Forest, Illinois, on Tuesday.
Women's Tennis
Spartan women's tennis hosts the Michigan State Classic, presented by Auto-Owners Insurance, Friday-Sunday.
Men's Tennis
Members of Michigan State's men's tennis program will compete at the Hope College RSM Invite Friday-Sunday in Holland, Michigan. Last week at the ITA All-American Championships, Matthew Forbes and Ozan Baris qualified for the 2025 NCAA Individual Championships.
Softball
Michigan State softball will play a trio of fall games this weekend. Friday, the Spartans are at Detroit Mercy. Saturday and Sunday, MSU is back at Secchia Stadium, hosting Hillsdale Saturday at 1 p.m. and Lansing Community College Sunday at 5:30 p.m.
