MSU begins official prep for 2025-26 season.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's basketball head coach Robyn Fralick and the Spartans women's basketball team officially opened practice for the 2025-26 season on Tuesday afternoon at the Breslin Center.
MSU is coming off a 22-10 record in 2024-25, going 11-7 in Big Ten action last season, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Fralick is the first Spartan women's basketball head coach to lead MSU to the NCAA Tournament in their first two seasons, and is primed for an exhilarating upcoming 2025-26 campaign.
"Today was an exciting day one. I love new beginnings," Fralick said to the media before practice. "I think the beginnings to things always have a real enthusiasm around them. I love that every team gets to write its own story. While we have been together and around each other for some point, there is something special about today, and I want our team to feel that and I want them to embrace that, and we get to figure out who we are and who we get to become."
Michigan State returns two of its top three scorers in Grace Van Slooten and Theryn Hallock. Van Slooten led the team in scoring, averaging 15.5 ppg, while Hallock was third with 13.3 ppg.
Fralick enters her third season at the helm of the Spartans, bringing back eight returners and welcoming seven newcomers to comprise the 2025-26 MSU roster.
"I like this group's maturity and experience, and how they take things serious and really works hard," Fralick said. "I think a big part of our culture is hard work. I know that's easy to say, but you know when it's happening. Those are some big things that I've really liked early about our group. There's a good blend of returners who have some real experience in how we play and how we do things, and some good newcomers that have added a jolt of energy and enthusiasm to the group."
Both Spartan basketball teams will be on display on Friday, Oct. 3 for the annual Michigan State Madness. Doors to the Breslin Center will open at 8 p.m. Admission to Michigan State Madness is free.
The Spartans will play 16 games at the friendly confines of the Breslin Center in 2025-26, beginning with an exhibition against Michigan Tech on Oct. 22. Last season, MSU was 13-2 at home.
Michigan State will begin exhibition action on Monday, Oct. 28 against Wayne State. Tip off time and more game information will be announced at an upcoming date.
