Here's a look at the week ahead (September 16-22) for Michigan State Athletics:
Volleyball
Michigan State volleyball returns to Jenison Field House for the Kathy DeBoer Invitational Thursday through Saturday, as the program celebrates Alumni Weekend. Thursday, MSU will host Binghamton at 6 p.m. On Friday, the Spartans will face Bowling Green at 6 p.m., as Michigan State will honor the 1975 team which posted a 41-4 mark and appeared in the AIAW Tournament. The weekend concludes Saturday when MSU hosts SIUE at 6 p.m. That night, MSU celebrates the 30th anniversary of the 1995 squad which posted a 34-3 record, captured a Big Ten championship with a 19-1 mark and advanced to the NCAA National Semifinals.
Women's Soccer
After opening Big Ten play with a 1-1 tie at Rutgers, Michigan State is back at home for a pair of contests this week against ranked opponents. Thursday marks the Big Ten home opener, as the Spartans host UCLA Thursday at 8 p.m. It's Red Cedar Rowdies Jersey Giveaway, while the contest will also be televised on Big Ten Network. Sunday, MSU hosts USC at 1 p.m.
Men's Golf
Michigan State will conclude play Tuesday in the Golf Canada Collegiate at Oviinbyrd Golf Club in Ontario. Last week at the Folds of Honor Collegiate, the Spartans finished 7th out of 15 schools, including placing ahead of No. 9 Florida State.
Men's Soccer
Michigan State hosts Ohio State Friday at 7 p.m. in DeMartin Stadium in the Big Ten home opener for the Spartans. It's Salute to Service Night, as all active-duty military, veterans and first responders will receive complimentary admission presentation of a valid ID.
Football
Michigan State takes to the road for the first time this season as it opens Big Ten play at USC. This will be the first meeting between the Spartans and Trojans as conference opponents. MSU has won the last three contests in the series, with the last meeting coming in the 1990 Hancock Bowl. The two teams have not met in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum since 1978.
Field Hockey
Following a two-game trip to Vermont, the Spartans will be on the road for another pair of contests this week. Friday, Michigan State will face rival Michigan in Ann Arbor. Sunday, the Spartans are in Oxford, Ohio to face Miami.
Women's Golf
Michigan State will take to the course for its second tournament of the season, competing at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational Sept 22-23 at Beacon Hall Golf Club in Aurora, Ontario. In its first tournament, the Folds of Honor Collegiate, the Spartans defeated three ranked squads.
Men's Tennis
Members of Michigan State's men's tennis program will compete in the ITA All-American Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The competition begins Saturday with pre-qualifying rounds. Qualifying begins Monday and the main draw opens on Wednesday, Sept. 24 and runs through Sunday the 28th.
