EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State's men's and women's cross country teams will kick off the 2025 season at the 40th Annual Jeff Drenth Memorial on Friday, Aug. 29 in Shepherd, Michigan and hosted by Central Michigan.
Both the women and the men will run a 5k with the women running at 11 a.m. and the men will begin at 11:35 a.m.
The Jeff Drenth Memorial is named after the late Jeff Drenth, brother to MSU's former Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Walt Drenth. Jeff, who passed away while training in 1986, is a member of the Central Michigan University Marcy Weston Athletics Hall of Fame.Â
The Spartan women begin the season ranked No. 17 in the USTFCCCA preseason coaches' poll. Michigan State is also ranked No. 3 in the Great Lakes Region. The MSU men are No. 30 in the preseason coaches' poll, while standing No. 4 in the Great Lakes Region poll.
The Spartans will run a variety of young runners and veterans to open the season. Following the Jeff Drenth Memorial, Michigan State will host the Spartan Invite/B1G Preview, sponsored by Auto-Owners Invitational on Sept. 12.
Earlier this week, All-American Rachel Forsyth and Moses Osterink were named Big Ten Runners to Watch.
