Spartan junior earns second-team in 2024-25, after being named first-team last season.
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State men's tennis junior Ozan Baris has been named a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Second-Team Academic-All American, announced Wednesday.
The 2024-25 Academic All-America® Men's Tennis teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
This marks the second-straight year that Baris earned CSC Academic All-America accolades after being tabbed to the first-team list last year.
Adding to his continued list of program record setting performance, Baris is the first player in MSU men's tennis program history to earn Academic All-America accolades in program history.
Baris is one of three players on the 18 players on the three-team list to be a multiple Academic All-America recipient, joining Mississippi State's Petar Jovanovic who was on the first team, and Oklahoma State's Isaac Becroft, who was on the third team.
A native of Okemos, Michigan, Baris has a 3.787 GPA majoring in communication. On the court, he earned First Team All-Big Ten accolades, logging 23 overall singles wins this season, including 10 during dual action.
Baris was announced as an ITA All-American earlier this week, marking the third-straight season he's earned ITA All-America accolades. He has now earned ITA All-American honors in 2023, 2024 and 2025. Baris is MSU's only multiple All-American recipient, now with three of the Spartans' seven total All-America honors, joining Mashiska Washington (singles) in 1994, current MSU head coach Harry Jadun and John Mullane (doubles) in 2015, Max Sheldon (doubles) with Baris in 2023.
The Spartans ended their 2024-25 campaign at 17-10, concluding their season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row. Overall, Michigan State was making its third appearance in the NCAA Tournament, first doing so in 2013.
MSU's 17-10 overall record gives the Green & White 40 wins over last two years, the most wins in back-to-back seasons since 2012-13, the Spartans' previous NCAA Tournament trip when current head coach Harry Jadun was a sophomore student-athlete.
