Elle Adrian Reaches the Podium on the First Day of the B1G Track Championships

EUGENE, Ore. - On the first day of the Big Ten Track & Field Championships, Michigan State had Spartans reach the podium and advance to finals at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Elle Adrian picked up the first point for the Spartan women, finishing eighth in the women's hammer throw. With her second throw of the day, she set a new personal best with a throw of 60.97m to reach the final in eighth place. She was not able to improve on that with her final three throws. She finished fourth in the women's weight throw at the indoor Big Ten Championships. Valadian Pallett was 12th with a career-best throw of 58.59m.
In her first Big Ten Outdoor Championship, Rachel Forsyth reached the final of the women's 1500m, finishing third in the second heat to automatically qualify. She crossed the line in 4:20.83. Overall, she qualified in the 12th spot. Olivia Millen finished 19th with a time of 4:24.50.
Timothy Cherry finished 10th overall in the men's 1500m, but did not qualify for the final. His time of 3:46.35 was just shy of four qualifying spots once the two automatic qualifiers in the four heats were set.
In the Spartans first event of the championship, Joshua DeVries finished 10th in the men's hammer with a top throw of 64.80m, which he achieved on his second attempt. He fell just short of reaching the final. Xavier Griffiths set a new personal best with a throw of 60.13m.
After the first day of competition, Dylan Terryberry stands 11th in the decathlon with 3,643 points. His best event of the day was a fourth-place finish in the shot put. He captured 709 points with a throw of 13.68m. He also set a personal best in the high jump (1.84m), earning 661 points. He ended the night with a season best in the 400m. He crossed the line in 51.48 to finish 10th and capture 748 points.
At the midway point of the heptathlon, Avery Budz is currently 17th with 3.073 points. Her best event was the high jump, where she finished fifth with 806 points. Her best jump was 1.66m. She set a pair of personal bests in the 100m hurdles (14.80) and the 200m (25.51). Leila Barmore stands right behind her in 18th place with 2,986 points. She set a personal best in the shot put with a throw of 9.73m for 512 points. Barmore also added a season best in the 200m finishing 13th in 25.47 for 844 points.
The Spartans ended the night with the 10,000m races. In the women's race, Kaitlyn Hynes finished 12th with a time of 34:07.19. In the men's race, Moses Osterink was the top Spartan finisher, crossing the line in 30:19.59 end 18th.
On Saturday, both the decathlon and the heptathlon will conclude, along with several prelim races on the track. The men's and women's steeplechases will end the second night of competition. Once again, the men will start at 6:52 p.m. (PT)/9:52 p.m. (ET). Saturday will see finals for men's javelin, men's shot put, women's long jump and women's discus.
