
Andrew Nolan Sets New School Among Highlights at Virginia Challenge

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Highlighted by a school-record performance from Andrew Nolan, the Michigan State track & field concluded a highly successful trip south at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Friday Action
The Spartans started the day with a victory in the men's hammer throw. Joshua DeVries took first with a season best throw of 63.75m. DeVries reached his longest throw of the day on his third attempt of the day. Colby Morlock was seventh, throwing 57.87m. In the women's hammer, Valadian Pallet was MSU's top finisher at 11th (53.67m). Also in the field events, Carter Bissell took 16th in the long jump (7.10m).
In MSU's first event on the track, Drew Novak reached the finals of the men's 100m with a time of 10.36. In the final, he finished sixth in 10.59.
Nolan was one of the biggest highlights of the night in the highly-competitive 3,000m steeplechase. He broke MSU assistant coach Max Benoit's 10-year old school record with a time of 8:40.95. He shaved five seconds of his previous personal best of 8:45.33 set at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships last season. He finished fifth overall in the race. Tyler Pritchett finished ninth with another PR with a time of 8:48.24.
The Spartans had a slew of personal bests in the 1,500m invite led by Kate Stewart-Barnett, who finished sixth with a time of 4:16.50, which was a new PR. Olivia Millen was right behind her in seventh place, crossing in 4:17.26, which was also a new personal best. Sarah Forsyth was 13th (4:20.89), while Sophia Lucki also added a personal best time of 4:27.58.
In the women's 5,000m invite, Rachel Forsyth finished third in her first collegiate 5k with a time of 15:47.04. Makenna Veen was 11th, crossing the line in 16:23.33.
Timothy Cherry led the way in the men's 1,500m invite with a PR time of 3:42.46 to finish eighth. Riley Hough took 12th in a best time of 3:44.18.
Colby Morlock ended the field events for the night with a third-place finish (18.04m) in the men's shot put, which was a season best. In the women's shot put, Jessica Stieb also captured third place in the women's shot put (15.90m).
Saturday Action
On Saturday, Mia Rogan got the Spartans going on the track in the 800m with a personal best time of 2:16.62.
In the men's pole vault, Adam Blue finished fourth with a best vault of 5.00m. In other field events, Pallett and Rylan Finstrom were in action in the women's discus. Pallett finished 13th with a throw of 47.66m, while Finstrom was 14th with a personal best throw of 47.02m. Dalton DeBeau placed third in the men's discus (52.97m).
Brady Schultz had a solid day in the high jump. He earned a third-place finish with a new PR (2.14m).
In a dangerous field in the women's 400m, Alexys Wilson was 12th with a time of 55.02.
Back on the track, the men's 4x100m team produced a season-best time of 40.54 to take third. The women's 4x100m squad finished sixth in 46.45.
Michigan State is back in action on Saturday, April 26 at the Grand Valley State Extra Weekend Meet.
