MSU Women’s Tennis in East Coast Contest at No. 57 Columbia

Spartans compete in their final non-conference match-up of the season before Big Ten play gets going next week.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women's tennis hits the road this weekend, traveling to New York, N.Y. to compete in a morning match-up on Sunday, March 2 at 10:30 a.m. against No. 57 Columbia.
The Green & White currently hold an eight-match win streak, the longest win streak since the 2004-05 season, when the Spartans earned 10 wins in a row for themselves.
Previously, the Spartans competed in their final doubleheader of the season, hosting Youngstown State and Ball State at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center.
MSU dominated in both of its matches, sweeping YSU in a 4-0 victory and only allowing BSU one point, triumphing 4-1.
Series History vs. Columbia
In the past, there have only been two meetings between the Spartans and the Lions, with the first meeting occurring during the 2021-22 season.
The Green & White fell to the No. 37 ranked Lions in their first meeting, slating two points, but ultimately dropping the match, 5-2.
More recently, the Spartans met with No. 28 ranked Columbia in East Lansing during the 2023-24 season, but were unable to secure the match, as the visitors from Columbia took the match, 4-2.
MSU looks to earn its first win against the Lions in the upcoming weekend and continue towards a strong record going into Big Ten Conference play.
Scouting Columbia
The Lions currently hold a 5-4 record going into the weekend, earning a 2-1 record at home, 1-1 record away and 2-2 in neutral site matches.
Most recently, the Lions fell to the No. 37 Yale Bulldogs in the final round of the ECAC Indoor Championship, and followed that loss with an additional one against No. 45 ranked Syracuse.
Columbia hosts Memphis on Friday, one day prior to facing the Spartans.
