Sheldon wins three-straight singles matches.
In doubles play, the Spartan pair of Saye/Sheldon fell in battle to Ferdinand Kloesters/Sachiv Kumar (Wisconsin) 6-3, but bounced back to defeat Alex Antonopoulos/Chen-Hui Ho (WMU) 6-4 to advance. The Spartan duo then cruised to a 6-1 victory over Jeremy Zhang and Pablo Torres Almeida (Illinois/DePaul) before their run ended in a close 7-6 loss to Maj Premzl and Stefan Simeunovic of Purdue.
Sheldon had a strong start to his fall singles season, posting three-straight wins to open tournament play. He began with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Sachiv Kumar (Wisconsin), followed by a 6-2, 6-4 win over Western Michigan's Chen-Hui Ho. Sheldon continued to battle all weekend, defeating Alex Almeida of DePaul in a tough, 7-6, 3-6, 10-2 match. The Spartan then fell to Ashton Adesoro (WMU) in a hard-fought 2-6, 7-6, 10-5.
Saye opened singles play with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Ferdinand Kloesters (Wisconsin), then advanced past Alex Antonopoulos (WMU) due to an injury retirement. He was then defeated by Illinois' Jeremy Zhang, 6-3, 6-2, in the next round.
Up next, several Spartans will travel to Lexington, Kentucky, to compete in the Lexington M15.
