Carr Leads Three in Double Figures as Michigan State Beats Bowling Green, 75-66

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Junior forward Coen Carr scored a team-high 17 points to lead three players in double figures as No. 22 Michigan State used a late second half run to pull away from Bowling Green for a 75-66 win in an exhibition game at the Breslin Center on Thursday night.
Carr hit 7-of-11 shots from the floor to finish with 17 points, adding five points, five blocked shots and four assists. Senior center Jaxon Kohler had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds and redshirt sophomore guard Jeremy Fears Jr. added 12 points and a game-high nine assists.

- The Spartans led by as many as 11 points in the first half and were up nine at the break (48-39), but Bowling Green inched back to tie the game at 57-all on a 3-pointer from Sam Towns with 10:32 to play.
- A fast-break dunk from Carr (9:59) and a 3-pointer from the wing from senior guard Trey Fort (8:18) gave MSU the lead for good and was part of a 14-4 run over 9:35 as the Spartans pushed the lead back to 71-61 on free throws from Carr with 4;24 to play.
- The Spartans took their biggest lead, 74-61, on a 3-pointer from redshirt freshman forward Jesse McCulloch with 3:50 left.
- MSU had gone into the half with a 48-39 lead at the half but came out of the locker room sluggishly and the Falcons pulled to within six points, 52-46, on a 3-pointer from Josiah Shackleford before tying the game at 57-all near the mid-point of the second.
- After trailing by five points, 22-17, midway through the first half, the Spartans out-scored Bowling Green, 31-17, over the final 9:48 of the half to take a 48-39 lead at intermission.
- The Spartans tied the game at 22-all after three-point play from Kohler at 9:10 and an alleyoop dunk from Fears to Carr at 8:38.
- Kohler's 3-pointer with 7:21 to play capped an 11-3 run over 1:50 as MSU took a 28-25 lead.
- Leading 28-27, the Spartans used a 7-0 burst over 1:40, taking a 35-27 lead on a jumper and free throw from senior center Carson Cooper with 4:41 left.
- The Spartans twice had 11 points leads in the final two minutes, first on a jumper from sophomore guard Kur Teng (46-35, 1:37) and then on a fast-break layup from Kohler (48-37, 57 seconds).
- Michigan State connected on 50.0 percent of its field goals in the first half (18-of-36) while opening a nine-point lead before shooting 31.0 percent in the second half (9-of-29).
- The Spartans handed out 24 assists on 27 made field goals (88.9% assist rate).
- Michigan State hit 77.8 percent of its free throws (21-of-27), including 92.3 percent in the second half (12-of-13).
- The Spartans finished the game with 14 blocked shots and had just eight turnovers.
