MSU Women’s Tennis Topped By Washington State Sunday

Spartan Morais picks up singles win.
SPOKANE, Wash. – Michigan State women's tennis fell to the Washington State Cougars in a Sunday matinee match.
It was another day on the west coast for the Green & White, with a 1 p.m. ET match on the clock. While the Spartans were ready to rally after a 5-2 loss to host Gonzaga on Friday, their work was cut out for them.
Doubles matches were a difficult back-and-forth battle between all of the Spartan pairings.
Junior Matilde Morais and redshirt sophomore Hanna Tsitavets paired up against the Cougars, putting up a fierce contest but ultimately dropped their match. The junior tandem of Issey Purser and Oriana Parkins-Godwin were another force to reckon with, but were unable to secure a win for the Spartans.
With both pairings dropping their matches, senior Liisa Vehvilainen and Ellie Black did not finish their match.
Singles was a strenuous battle for all who competed, but only one Spartan, junior Matilde Morais, was able to secure a point for the team, competing in only two sets and winning in a sweep, 6-3, 6-3.
The Spartans ended the match 1-6, with Washington State improving to a 3-0 record, while MSU finished its weekend trip to the Pacific Northwest, 0-2.
Michigan State returns to East Lansing for its home opener on Friday, Jan. 24, a 5 p.m. meeting between the Spartans and Xavier, hosted at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center.
