
Rachel Forsyth Breaks School Record to Highlight First Weekend of Indoor Season

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State track & field teams had a successful opening weekend to indoor season. The Spartans were led by a record-breaking performance by Rachel Forsyth at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston.
The Spartans also had several strong performances at the GVSU Holiday Open in Allendale, Michigan.
Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener
Big Ten Cross Country Freshman of the Year Rachel Forsyth continued her strong first season at MSU by breaking a school record in her first collegiate indoor meet. Forsyth finished 12th in the 3000m with a time of 8:59.4. She broke Spartan great Rachel Schulist's record of 9:01.25, which was set in 2015. She was eighth among collegiate performers.
Kaitlyn Hynes had a strong start to the indoor season with 16:17.08 in the 5000m.
GVSU Holiday Open
Field Events
Jessica Stieb had an excellent day in the Spartan's season opener. She finished first in the shot put with a throw of 16.11m. In the weight throw, she was second with a best throw of 17.50, which was a new personal best. In the shot put, Margaret Jones (14.45m) and Rylan Finstrom (13.45m), finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Jones also finished first in the weight throw invite in her MSU debut with a throw of 17.98m.
In the women's weight throw, Elle Adrian (21.15m) and Valadian Pallett (20.16m), finished first and second, respectively. Adrian's throw was a personal best. Leila Barmore also capture the title in the women's long jump in her Spartan debut with a leap of 5.89m.
Sophia Mettes and Natalie Blake finished 1-2 in the pole vault. Mettes won the title with vault of 3.90m, while Blake's best vault was 3.80m.
On the men's side, Carter Bissell finished fifth in the long jump (6.95m), while Jalen Nelson was tied for seventh (6.83). Dalton DeBeau was fourth in the weight throw with a personal-best throw of 17.00m, while Andrew Harding and Brady Shcultz tied for fifth in the high jump invite (2.04m).
Running Events
On the track, Kaia Scheffler earned second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.56 with Barmore finishing sixth with a time of 8.94. In the finals of the 60m, Amani Nuels was fifth, crossing the line in 7.73.
On the men's side, Terrance Muex took third in the 200m with a time of 48.28. Logan Allen finished third in the 60m finals with a time of 6.84, while Cameron Cheetam was fourth, crossing the line in 6.85.
