No. 17 Women's Soccer Welcomes Bowling Green on Senior Day

EAST LANSING, Mich. -Â No. 17 Michigan State women's soccer (1-0-0, 0-0-0 B1G)Â continues its season-opening homestand with a 1 p.m. contest against Bowling Green (0-0-0, 0-0-0 MAC)Â on Sunday, Aug. 20 at DeMartin Stadium.
Sunday's match will stream on B1G+, with live stats available at MSUSpartans.com. The match will serve as the Spartans' Senior Day.
KICKOFF
The Spartans enter Sunday's match with a 1-0-0 ledger after defeating Cincinnati in their season opener on Thursday, Aug. 17, 1-0, at DeMartin Stadium. Senior midfielder Gabby Mueller scored the lone goal for the Spartans in the 20th minute, sending in a pass from senior forward Mackenzie Anthony. With the goal, Mueller and Anthony secured their first points in the Green & White after spending three seasons as teammates at Baylor. Graduate transfer Kaitlyn Parks spent the full 90 minutes in goal for the Spartans, recording her first shutout at MSU. In addition to Mueller, Parks and Anthony, five more Spartans made their debuts on Thursday - Sofia Beerworth, Sophia Piotrowski, Mimi Hallier, Bella Najera and Renee Watson.
SCOUTING THE FALCONS
Bowling Green is led by fourth-year head coach Jimmy Watson, who holds a 26-13-9 record in his time with the Falcons. The Falcons posted a 9-5-5 (6-2-3 MAC) record in 2022, finishing third in the Mid-American Conference standings. Bowling Green ended its season in the MAC semifinals in 2022, falling to Ball State.
Bowling Green returns four of its top five scorers from 2022, led by sophomore Brynn Gardner, whose 19 points in 2022 landed her a spot on the MAC All-Freshman Team. The Falcons also return senior goalkeeper Lili Berg who has started in every match of her career at Bowling Green. In 2022, Berg logged 74 saves, seven shutouts and a goals-against average of 0.87.
Sunday's match will be Bowling Green's season opener.

The two squads last faced each other in MSU's season opener in 2022, with the Spartans earning a 2-0 win on the road. The Spartans will look to remain unbeaten at home against the Falcons, currently holding an 8-0-3 home record against Bowling Green.
