Three Wrestlers Post Podium Finishes at Clarion Open

CLARION, Pa. — The Michigan State wrestling team opened the season at the Clarion Open that saw three top-six finishes on Sunday, Nov. 5.
The day was highlighted with junior Luke Daly leading the way for the Spartans in the 197 division with a team high fourth-place place finish. The Carbondale, Illinois, native posted three victories on the day that started with a 19-4 tech fall against Ike Schmidt from Columbia at the 6:41 mark. Daly went on to win two more matches with a 7-4 decision in the round of 16 and knocking off the 29th ranked Sam Mitchell from Buffalo, 5-4, before dropping his next two matches securing the fourth-place place spot.
Second-year heavyweight Josh Terrill finished in fifth place. Terrill had two commanding victories that started with an 7-0 decision over Billy McChesney of Columbia, and recorded his first career tech fall winning 19-4 over Robbie Unruh from Buffalo to secure a trip to the quarterfinals. From there Terrill would fall to Nick Feldman of Ohio State. Terrill secured his fifth-place finish winning back-to-back sudden victories winning both matches, 6-3, over Jamier Ferere (Navy) and Nolan Neves (Columbia).
Jacob Lee's sixth place finish started off slow dropping a 2-0 decision battle with Jack Wehmeyer from Columbia that saw him in the consolation bracket early. From there Lee went on a three straight win streak that was highlighted with a first-round fall victory, pinning Johnny Spinner of John Carroll in under two minutes. The junior finished his last two matches by decision, 14-8 and 9-4, to finish in sixth place in the 197 division.
