Spartans Headed to EMU Fall Classic 5K

EAST LANSING, MICH. - Both Michigan State cross country teams have athletes prepared to compete in the annual Eastern Michigan University Fall Classic 5K races on Friday, Oct. 20 at the Hudson Mills Metropark South Course in Dexter, Michigan.
The annual 5K competition will kick off with with the Men's race at 4:30 p.m., followed by the women at 5 p.m.. The men will compete out of a field of eight teams while the women out of a field 11. Both fields are compiled namely by local teams from the Great Lakes State, as Michigan, Central Michigan, Oakland and hosts Eastern Michigan will lineup shoulder-to-shoulder with State in the starting boxes Friday.
The race will not feature any of the scorers that competed in the highly-touted Nuttycombe Invitational last Friday, Oct. 13, in which the women placed 9th and the men 25th, in preparation for Big Ten Championships back in Madison, Wisconsin, next Friday, Oct. 27.Â
The last two times the Spartans assembled team scores at the EMU Fall Classic, Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Lisa Breznau's team has come out on top as the women will be defending their team win from last year and the men claimed victory in 2018. Senior Fatima Giron will look to replicate her first-place individual performance from the 2021 edition of the race.Â
